After spending 11 years in the NBA playing for the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks, Etan Thomas uses passion and genius that go well beyond athletics. Influenced by his mother, a schoolteacher, he grew up in the 1960’s surrounded by books on the civil rights movement and politics, and has become a prolific writer, thinker, advocate, and activist. He authored a book of poetry called More Than an Athlete, in which he addresses pressing societal issues, such as the death penalty, racism and abortion. Now in the process of finishing his fifth book, Etan shares his passion for mentoring and civic engagement.
